Growing popularity of online courses

Many colleges and universities offer online classes for busy professionals and others who prefer the alternative to a traditional classroom learning. E-learning is a good option for those with responsibilities that make it difficult for them to attend school. Many online courses are structured so that the student can study at times that are convenient for them, as opposed to having to sit in a classroom lecture for an hour at a time, several times a week. When the courses are offered through accredited colleges and universities, the credits are usually transferable.

Online courses are usually completed 100 percent online. However, some instructors like to meet with their classes once a week. Students wishing to enroll in online classes should find out if they will have to attend a brick and mortar classroom during the course. Some e-learning is done at the students’ own pace, others follow a weekly course outline. This varies by course and by instructor. There are students who prefer it both ways.

E-learning is not just for college students. Online courses are gaining in popularity for both elementary and high school students. Whether the student’s courses are completely online or only specific classes are offered via the internet, e-learning gives students options that are not available in the traditional classroom.
